Linton Antique Society’s new season

Linton Antique Society has announced the programme for its 2015-16 season, so now is the time to become a member to take advantage of the talks and events that are on offer. Annual membership only costs £20 and this gives free access to the Society's monthly meetings at Linton Memorial Hall and the opportunity to take part in the group outings - to Ripley Castle on 30 September and to Raby Castle on 12 May 2016, as well as to attend the Annual Lunch on 17 March 2016 when guest speaker, BBC antiques expert David Harper, will be on hand to offer valuations.
As always, there is a strong panel of speakers, among whom are curator Nilesh Mistry, art historian and biographer Susan Fagence Cooper, archaeologist Gillian Hovell and antiques expert Nicholas Merchant. You can expect entertaining insights on a range of topics: the painter William Hogarth, Madame de Pompadour and Sèvres porcelain, the history of silver hallmarking, the tricky issue of fakes and forgeries, the fascinating world of Indian textiles, the complex tensions in the life of Charles Dickens and, last but not least, an archaeologist's vision that may change the way you look at your local landscape.
Details of the Society's programme can be seen on its website www.lintonantiquesociety.org.uk where you'll also find a membership application form, or you can contact Membership Secretary Barbara Hepburn on 01937 582243 for further details.
