BE A CHORISTER FOR A DAY AT LEEDS MINSTER

Leeds Minster Bells ring out to welcome potential Choristers!

The famous Bells of Leeds Minster welcome many visitors during the course of each year. No group of visitors will be potentially so valuable to the future of this great Church as those attending our Be a Chorister for a Day event on Saturday 26 January.

Does a youngster in your family fancy being a chorister for a day? Leeds Minster offers just that opportunity to children aged 8-13.

On Saturday 26 January 2013 between 1.00 and 5.00 pm youngsters can join the existing Choristers (both Boys and Girls) of Leeds Minster Choir for a fun packed afternoon of singing workshops as well as taking the chance to explore a truly wonderful building.

In just a few hours, those taking part will get an idea of what it is like to be a Chorister at Leeds Minster.

Speaking to members of the existing Choir will give them the chance to find out more about the musical education on offer as well as the many social activities enjoyed by our young singers. The day culiminates in a service of Choral Evensong at 4.15 pm featuring the young people joining with the regular Leeds Minster Choir - parents are warmly invited to this 30 minute service.

Singing in the Minster Choir is a fantastic opportunity for all children to develop their love of music, whilst growing in confidence and learning vital life skills. The day, and my work at the Minster, aims to ensure that every child has this exciting opportunity. I'm looking forward to meeting as many budding young singers as possible for a day of beautiful music and lots of fun!

There are many benefits to membership of Leeds Minster Choir and your child can develop their musical talents through sight reading and musical theory. Choristers of Leeds Minster Choir also receive free instrumental tuition along with lessons in singing and voice production.

The Director of Girl Choristers is Mr David Houlder, MA, FRCO, for many years the acclaimed Director of Music at Liverpool's historic Bluecoat School and Sub-Organist of Liverpool Cathedral. Master of the Music at the Minster is Dr Simon Lindley, who is also Leeds City Organist.

So, if you are interested in booking a place for your child at the Leeds Minster Chorister for a Day experience, then please contact our choral outreach animateur Helen Strange at helen_rebecca06@yahoo.co.uk or by telephoning 07964289150.
