St Peter's Singers are thrilled to announce the first performance of an exciting new work by the brilliant and highly-respected composer Philip Moore. Tu es Petrus - a setting of words spoken by Christ to St Peter - was commissioned by the choir as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations and will be sung for the first time at their recital in Leeds Minster at 5.30pm on Sunday 24th June.

‘Book-ended by two fine Edwardian anthems, this programme is full of new and nearly new works written in our own lifetimes.
Pride of place goes to Philip Moore's Tu es Petrus, commissioned by St Peter's Singers for their 40th Anniversary and receiving its first performance ever. Philip's Three Prayers of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and All Wisdom cometh from the Lord are already firm favourites of ours and we are enormously proud to add this fine work to the choral repertoire.
Receiving only its second performance, Picking Fruit on the Feast of Transfiguration is a setting by Matthew Oglesby of a poem by Hannah Stone - both members of St Peter's Singers. It reminds us of their wonderful talent ahead of the premiere - yes, another - of their visionary Penthos Requiem to be given by St Peter's Singers on October 27th this year.
Judith Bingham's rarely heard Touch'd by heavenly fire, with its virtuoso organ part, is dedicated to Dr Lindley and was first performed in 2006 for the centenary of the Church Music Society completes the triptych of new works.
More familiar - and popular - modern works include Maurice Duruflé's classic, terse Four Motets, and Arvo Pärt's dreamy Magnificat (recorded by St Peter's Singers in the Victoria Quarter for their 2014 album One Equal Music)
E.W. Naylor's Vox Dicentis is one of the finest anthems in the Cathedral repertoire with its unusually heightened rhetoric and textual variety, while Parry's magnificent Hear my words not only two contains extremely fine arias, but is also the source of the well-known hymn ‘O Praise ye the Lord'.
