Initiative to launch a Steiner School in Leeds

Published: 8th May 2011 01:11

Do you have children aged 0 - 6? Would you like them to experience an unhurried and creative learning environment?

Register your interest now!

Parents and staff at Beechtree Steiner Initiative in North Leeds are applying to open a new Steiner Waldorf School under the Government's Free School scheme, Building on over ten years' experience of running Kindergartens and Parent and Child Groups. We would like to hear from families in and around Leeds who might be interested in Steiner Waldorf Education.

Creating new opportunities

Steiner Waldorf education is based on a deep understanding of the developmental phases of children and brings out a love of learning in its pupils. It takes account of the needs of the whole child - academic, physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual - and sees artistic activity and the development of the imagination as integral to learning. It is suitable for all children, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion or ability. The priority of the Steiner ethos is to provide an unhurried and creative learning environment where children can find the joy in learning and experience the richness of childhood.

Steiner education engages the whole child.

New Class planned for 2012

In Steiner Waldorf settings, children attend kindergarten from ages 3 - 6, then school begins at age 6+ equivalent to primary Year Two. That formal learning of the 'Three Rs' does not begin until age 6+ is one of the main differences between Steiner Waldorf and mainstream education. Our existing Kindergartens currently provide places for children up to the age of six at our two kindergartens in Headingley and Chapel Allerton, and from 2012 we hope to expand and begin Year Two equivalent teaching in a new Class that will grow and develop into a fully fledged Steiner School for Leeds.
