Tap into Your Spiritual Side with the New West Yorkshire Tearoom

Published: 20th March 2020 12:10

For those who walk down Darley Street in Bradford, there’s a small shop that might draw their attention. Nestled inconspicuously between the buildings to either side, the Spirit of Bradford Tearoom offers cake and coffee with a twist – inside its doors, you can also enjoy a spooky experience.

Located in the heart of Bradford’s bustling city centre, the unique concept comes from business partners Barrie Naylor and Karen Hodgson and is a great place to visit for believers and non-believers alike due to its fantastic food and fun and kooky atmosphere.

While science might dominate our modern-day society, an interesting trend has emerged in recent years – the unprecedented rise of spirituality. With 24 percent of people claiming not to affiliate with any religion, we’re now seeing many other forms of faith filling this void.

Most notable among these is a belief in some higher power, but without the rules or structure of traditional religion. This is best exemplified by the popularity of businesses like TheCircle, which provide a host of online services for believers, from tarot readings to telephone calls with clairvoyants.

It’s this sense of the occult and out-there that is celebrated at the Spirit of Bradford Tearoom, where those who pop in will be invited to sip on a brew and enjoy a slab of homemade chocolate cake while surrounded by everything from healing crystals to homemade love potions.

A haunted setting

While the Spirit of Bradford Tearoom offers a cool and quirky alternative to Starbucks, its main focus is to be a place where visitors can chat, relax, and experience something a little different from the norm.

More than that, it’s meant to offer an introduction to the occult, and what better place to get that than in a haunted house. Speaking on the setting, Mr Naylor shared that the building has long been known for its spooky atmosphere, revealing that a lot of people claim to have seen spirits inside its walls.

While this does mean that those who are brave enough to attend might be treated to their own ghostly experience, the tearoom is also a great place for more relaxing antics, such as catching up with friends, and its food and drink come highly recommended by the locals.

A calendar of exciting events

While the Spirit of Bradford Tearoom is a perfectly nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat, it also offers a calendar of exciting events for those who want to delve deeper into the mysteries surrounding us.

While the Spirit of Bradford Tearoom is a perfectly nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat, it also offers a calendar of exciting events for those who want to delve deeper into the mysteries surrounding us.

Indeed, its founders promise a whole roster of talented visitors, from psychics to tea leaf readers, so that anyone who wants to get to grips with spirituality on a more in-depth level or give these activities a go themselves is able to do so.

That being said, even the most cynical will want to pop inside for a cuppa, with the homemade cakes and buns on sale being some of the very best in this bustling corner of Bradford.
