Your Right to Write - Community Networking Explained

Community Networking is now live, this is a major step forward designed to maximise community interaction by enabling local Clubs, Societies and Organisations to post their own current news updates directly onto this AboutMyArea local community website.

We want this local community website to be the natural forum for information and opinions in order that even more people can log on to find out what is going on in the area; to be informed and to inform. Contributors may be provocative but will always be responsible.

Debate and discussion is healthy: to reignite the spirit, energy and passion of the community, it's really about caring what happens locally.

Remember one of the greatest strengths of AboutMyArea is community content - and that's where you can assist us in keeping your local community better informed with current relevant news.

Here's how it works

We are looking for community-spirited individuals who would like to provide regular content for this website. It could just be your individual take on what happens locally, or it may be that you represent a local club, society or organisation who wants to spread the word about your current activities and initiatives.

Just to make it simple, we have created the following classifications for content providers - whichever one suits you, we'd be keen to hear from you now.

Sub Editors

The idea of Community Networking is to generate varied content and further expand and strengthen links into the local community. We are actively looking for Sub-Editors who will regularly up-date content on the AboutMyArea website to keep the local population informed with everything that is going on in their area.

We aim to ensure that local topical issues are given the oxygen of publicity providing a prime reason for even more local people to visit the site, prompting debate and interaction. As a Sub-Editor you will help to provide an invaluable local service to your community.

All new content providers will initially be vetted by the site editor, and will sign a Content Agreement; whether they are Cause Groups wishing to save the local Post Office, or maternity ward, or tackle environmental issues, and will give the website a great local profile, and generate local debate.

Please register your interest by using the link below, and we promise to keep you informed regarding this exciting new opportunity. It would be useful for you to let us know how often you intend to post on the site, and whether you are part of a recognised organisation or local body. The sooner you click, the sooner you can contribute.

Potential Sub Editors could belong to these local groups:

Content Contributors

This is the most popular way for local people, campaigners, opinion-formers and organisations to interact with this local AboutMyArea community website. The approach is truly "if you have something to say which impacts on, or reflects the local community, here's the place to say it".

Articles and regular news items will simply be submitted to the Site Editor for inclusion on the website. The more topical and community focused the better, and don't forget to include photos to really bring your story to life.

Again just register your interest below, letting us know which club or organisation you represent, and will keep you informed.

Registered Site Visitors

Even if you are not intending to write regular content for your AboutMyArea website, you still have an opportunity to make your views known. Community Comment is already a fully established feature for local people to interact and register their observations on all aspects of site content - it's a sort of local Speaker's Corner, available to registered site users and community commentators. It's an easy to use feedback facility on the site designed to further stimulate debate and is a tangible demonstration of our growing links into the community - if people post, they care as much as we do.
