This spring sees the launch of three brand new ‘Explore’ guides produced by South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) - Family Fun, Canals and Heritage – that have all been prepared to help visitors and locals get the most out of what this beautiful area has to offer.
Family Fun is packed with interesting and fun things to do for all the family including exploring ancient forests; getting close to the animals at a variety of children’s farms; visiting child-friendly historic houses or joining one of the many fun-packed activity programmes.
Canals is all about exploring the 17 miles of Grand Union and Oxford Canals on foot or by barge, discovering the history behind the waterways and experiencing the delights than unfold along the way from the Iron Truck Aqueduct at Cosgrove up to Stowe Hill bridge near Nether Heyford in the north of the district.
Heritage takes visitors on a trip of historical discovery in an area that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. This guide unlocks the secrets of some of our most beautiful villages to reveal their ancient, royal and military connections. There is also a wealth of fine country houses with royal connections, magnificent churches and traditional market towns.
Councillor Rupert Fordham, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration, said: “South Northamptonshire has a rich heritage and an abundance of outstanding places to visit and we are working hard to raise awareness of just what there is to discover in the district.
“These magnificent guides will not only attract visitors and help local employment, but also boost our local economy – so let’s all go and explore.”
The guides are available from SNC offices, attractions throughout the district and the Towcester Museum. They can also be downloaded from www.southnorthants.gov.uk/tourism.
