Towcester Bypass Action Group STILL wants your help! Stopping heavy lorries from polluting Towcester is important but making the town attractive to local people and visitors is equally important.
Writing to AboutMyArea/NN12 Jim Lynch said, "Thanks to the fantastic response to the "Bypass for Towcester by 2020" petition from AboutMyArea/NN12 readers, we are closing in on our target of 2,000 signatures.
The Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom, our MP, is driving our campaign for an early completion of the Towcester Relief Road by pursuing grants and convincing central and local government and the developer of the immediate need for the Relief Road.
"A petition signed by a significant number of local people will demonstrate to these bodies the strength of feeling in Towcester and the surrounding towns and villages.
"It was announced in AboutMyArea/NN12 that work on the Southern Development will start in early February 2017 with the construction of a new A5 roundabout opposite the entrance to Towcester Racecourse.
"447 homes will be built in the first phase. The occupation of the 1016th home, which will bring with it the Relief Road, is still a long way off; hence the need to encourage work to start earlier.
"The Relief road will not be dual carriageway but we are promised that signage will direct through-traffic on to it and that heavy goods vehicles will be prohibited from using the Town Centre (except for access).
"Stopping heavy lorries from polluting Towcester is important but making the town attractive to local people and visitors is equally important.
"The Towcester Bypass Action Group (TBAG) will push for traffic calming and other improvements to the centre to be considered in parallel with the Relief Road and not as an afterthought.
"The Relief Road will significantly reduce the traffic congestion and pollution in the centre of Towcester. Sensitive improvements following detrunking can improve access for the growing population and enhance the attractiveness and vibrancy of the Town Centre.
"Help to bring forward this vital improvement to Towcester by signing the petition to our MP and publicising it to everybody on your address book or Facebook page.
"If you haven’t already done so, please sign TBAG’s petition.
