---------------------------------------

The Milk Mates Group is a free, friendly, relaxed and supportive group for women who are planning to or who are already breastfeeding.

Whether you just want to meet other breastfeeding mums, want to find out more about breastfeeding or you have a specific problem with breastfeeding, you are welcome to Milk Mates.

Occasionally, as well as just being there, there will sometimes be special guests invited along, from a dietician to representatives from companies who may sell products of interest relevant to breastfeeding, at reduced prices or offer a service such as free fittings.

We also have a library of useful tools to assist breastfeeding, for example a manual breast pump for expressing milk.

The Breastfeeding Supporters:

The Breastfeeding Supporters at this group are voluntary mothers, who have breastfed their own children and have been trained by the NHS to provide support when needed.

Their knowledge is regularly refreshed and kept up-to-date with the latest developments too. And to add to this, the local Health Visitor sometimes attends the group to assist.

Each Breastfeeding Supporter has been enhanced CRB Checked, for your peace of mind.

Breastfeeding Benefits:

There are many benefits to both Mum and baby, here are some just to name a few:

Benefits To Mum:
  • It lowers the risk of Mum getting breast or ovarian cancer.
  • It naturally uses up about 500 calories a day, so Mums who breastfeed often find it easier to lose their pregnancy weight.
  • It saves money - formula feeding costs around £45 per month, that's £540 per year!!
Benefits To Baby:
  • Baby is far less likely to develop obesity in life.
  • Baby has a reduced chance of developing diabetes in life.
  • Baby will be less prone to develop ear or chest infections.
  • Baby is less likely to develop Asthma or Eczema.
