Free Information Sessions To Help Business Owners With Their Fire Safety Responsibilities
| Published: 6th March 2012 12:35 |

CAMBRIDGESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) is offering free information sessions to anyone that either owns a business or is responsible for operating one.
When the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 (FSO) was introduced, the responsibility for making a premises safe from fire became that of the owner/occupier of a premises. The role of the Fire Authority is to enforce the provisions of this order but also to give guidance and advice. Non compliance with the FSO has resulted in numerous prosecutions around the UK for failure of Responsible Persons to meet their fire safety responsibilities.
It has become clear that a lot of people are still unsure of their responsibilities for fire safety or where they can go for guidance to help them meet their responsibilities.
Steve Cotton, Head of Fire Protection for CFRS said: "We would rather help a business comply with the fire safety legislation than take enforcement action against them - and we want to prevent fires from happening in the first place.
"A lot of business owners aren't aware of their responsibilities, or just haven't thought about some of the fire risks in their premises. Our seminars will make these things easier to spot and put right, making their premises safer from fire.
"Once you know what you have to do the solutions aren't always complex or costly. Our free seminars aim to encourage ‘responsible persons' to be fire safety conscious - helping protect your employees and business from fire."
The seminars offered by CFRS are approximately four hours long, free of charge and are held on a monthly basis at various locations throughout the county. The seminars aim to give you an understanding of your roles and responsibilities under the FSO, advice on how to make your premises safe from fire and guide you through the process of carrying out a Fire Risk Assessment.
If you are interested in attending one of these seminars, please contact 01733 353202 or 07825 506697 to arrange a date and location that is convenient to.
