Cheshire West and Chester Councillor for Parkgate, Martin Barker, publishes his first blog for AboutMyArea CH64 readers.
A couple of months has passed since the election and I have to say how honoured I am to have been elected as a ward councillor for Parkgate. We worked very hard to win your votes and I intend to repay you and work hard for our village over the next 4 years.
The first Annual meeting at Chester Town Hall was very interesting and prior to this I was offered the role of a newly revamped Overview and Scrutiny Committee which I have accepted. As an Independent I am convinced of the need to ensure the workings of Cheshire West and Chester Council are as open and transparent as possible, which is why I believe this is a perfect role for me. I recognise that chairing this committee is an enormous task, but I really do feel that it is one really suited to the only independent member of a council which is so tight politically between Labour and Conservative.
I am in the process of setting up a newly formed Parkgate Action Group and we have our first meeting on Friday. This will involve CWaC, Neston Town Council and local community groups including Parkgate Traders, The Parkgate Society and Parkgate Communty Spirit group. This will be a good way to lay down the foundations for future projects and initiatives over the next few years for our ward.
I have already received a number of issues affecting our local residents of which I am working through with CWaC officers. I will ensure that any issues are acted on as quickly as possible.
I will be holding regular surgeries and will publicise these as soon as I have dates available and will be reporting back at regular intervals via this blog and also Ward newsletters.
In the meantime if you think I can be of assistance please do not hesitate to contact me via my mobile 07711 373104 or email email@example.com.
