Neston Rotarians help local boy - find out how you can help too

Published: 26th November 2008 15:57

Recently, the Rotary Club of Neston has given it's practical and financial support to a family in the CH64 area.

8 year old Nicholas Ainsworth, of Willaston, faces a number of challenges as a result of Cerebral Palsy.  His parents were advised by medical experts that Nicholas would greatly benefit from a "Second Skin," which is a made-to-measure lycra suit that supports his body, correcting his posture sufficiently to allow him to take part in many activities that would otherwise be closed to him.

The suits were invented by a company in Australia, and are made available in the UK by a company in Scotland. Unfortunately, the provision of these suits is not funded by the Primary Care Trust in the CH64 area. A classic example of the "postcode lottery" - if the family lived in some other parts of the UK, the NHS would pay.  So, for the past 4 years the family have been funding the suits themselves (at a cost of £2000 per year).

The benefits have been enormous. The suit allows Nicholas to take part in more activities and integrate more fully at school, leading to a marked increase in Nicholas's confidence, and helping him towards a more self-sufficient future.

Having run short of the money needed to continue giving their son this invaluable assistance, the family turned to Rotary, who have not only provided the money for the suit this year, but Members have also offered practical advice and support in the family's quest to have the suits funded in future by the NHS.

HamperWin a Christmas Hamper

Phllip Bates & Co Chartered Accountants and Financial Advisors have pledged to raise funds over the next year in order to pay for the next suit that Nicholas will need.

The first of their fund-raising activities is a raffle to win a Christmas Hamper*.  All you have to do to enter is pop into Phillip Bates & Co, 1-5 Chester Road, Neston, and buy raffle tickets which cost £1 each.
