Hornsea Christmas Lights are switched-on in 2008
Magic Multicoloured Start to Christmas
Hornsea & District Chamber of Trade have joined forces with Freeport Hornsea and local radio station KCFM 99.8 for the Christmas Lights ‘Switch On' Night on Friday 27th November. Proceedings will start at 6.00 when DJ Rob Langley will be on stage to provide music, entertainment and games. There will be magic for all ages provided by "The Great Lorenzo".
Anticipation will start to build from 6.00 pm when Newbegin is closed to traffic. KCFM's DJ Rob Langley will lead the countdown to the ‘switch on' at 6.30 pm by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mr John Whittle.
Simon Tudor, President of the Hornsea and District Chamber of Trade said, "Hornsea's Christmas lights are put up by volunteers which is no mean feat with all the strict health and safety issues in force and paid for purely by donations, raffles and events held throughout the year. This year substantial investment has been made in new low energy multicoloured LED light strings to span Newbegin"
Simon added "I am also thrilled successful local author Valerie Wood has agreed to come along on this special evening and sign copies of her new book ‘Rich girl poor girl'. Valerie will be in the Cusworths store Newbegin for anyone who would like a copy of her latest book signing.
There will also be an array of stalls selling cakes, sweets, balloons, burgers, gifts etc, various shops and banks will be staying open late joining in the festivities and choirs and bands will be playing along Newbegin making this one of the best light switch on nights. I hope all organisations and residents of Hornsea will join in and make this a great start to their Christmas celebrations".
