Explosive finale to summer!
Don't miss explosive finale to the summer at Royal Gunpowder Mills, Beaulieu Drive, Waltham Abbey, EN9 1JY. A spectatular show of pyrotechnic demonstrations and display of explosive special effects wil be held at 2.40pm on Saturday and 1.30pm & 2.30pm on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
Come and spend the day, enjoying the historic site and landscape, guided tours and exhibitions. Families can see mad science shows, test their skills on the target ranges, spot wildlife, get crafty. Indoors or outdoors, with ample playspace, the Royal Gunpowder Mills is an all-weather venue providing fantastic opportunities for families to explore together, experience nature, and learn about secret history that went on here. The Big Bang Weekend is the perfect treat for the whole family to round off the summer holiday break.
As with all our events, we have fun and unusual science shows in the Mad Lab. You can take a ride on the land train to see the secret North Site, climb the Wildlife Tower for views and sightings of wildlife, see our exhibitions of rockets in the Rocket Vault and enjoy family activities and making things. Children of all ages and grown ups too will be kept busy and entertained all day. Allow plenty of time as there is a lot to see and do.

Please note Pyrotechnics Show takes palce on Queens Mead and Kaboom and The Space Race takes place in the Mad Lab.

If you have not been for a while, well worth another visit as they have lots of new features in the last couple of years including a larger rocket exhibition, newly refurbished cafe and outdoor wooden play area.

By Road: From the M25: Leave jct 26, follow signs for A121 to Waltham Abbey. At traffic lights, McDonalds on your left, our entrance is opposite in 'Beaulieu Drive'.
By Public Transport: Nearest station is Waltham Cross (Liverpool Street to Hertford East Line). From Waltham Cross station it is 20 minutes' walk to Royal Gunpowder Mills.
