Law Firm Team Conquers "The 15 Peaks" for The Rowans Hospice

Published: 11th May 2011 20:02

An intrepid team from law firm, Blake Lapthorn,  will be tackling The Welsh 3000s on 11 June to raise funds for The Rowans Hospice. The Welsh 3000s, often known as the ‘The 15 Peaks', is a challenge in which team members are required to summit the top of all mountains over 3000ft in Wales within 24 hours, without using any form of transport. It is very rocky, and both uphill and downhill sections are demanding. Navigation can also be problematic.

The team of eight from Blake Lapthorn comprises Chris Alder, Simon Burge, John Hepworth, Ruth Johnson, Philip Somarakis, Jos Lloyd, Jon Wallsgrove and Stephen Murfitt. Blake Lapthorn wants to raise as much money as possible for its staff-nominated charity, which will in turn ensure that the firm continues to make a real difference in the local community.

The team leader, Chris Alder, commented: "The Welsh 3000s is a real challenge. Whilst all of us in the team have experience of these types of challenge, the 3000s is a real step up.  Walking 24 hours along rocky mountainsides and across narrow ridges is not an easy environment to hike in. Added to that, the exposed nature of some of the mountains and our reliance upon our own navigation means that this will be a challenge for each of us. Having said that, it is an exciting opportunity to raise charitable funds for The Rowans Hospice, as well as heightening Blake Lapthorn's relationship with the Hospice. All of us in the team are very much looking forward to pulling on our boots and getting under way."

Ann Cooper, Head of Fundraising and Marketing for The Rowans Hospice, said: "This is an incredible challenge to take on and we wish the team the best of luck for their marathon trek."
