Trevor Bratty at the Ice-Cream EmporiumA seafront business is looking forward to the increase in footfall after South Parade Pier reopened today.
The Ice-cream Emporium opened at the front of the pier in 2012 but in 2014 had to shut down for a year when the pier closed completely. It opened again in APril 2015 when the new pier owners took over.
Now it's had a makeover and is dog-friendly.
Owner, Trevor Bratty explained, "We've undergone a refit ourselves. We've knocked through to the back and now have a seating area which seats up to 25 people. We have several tables to you can now not only have Southsea's famous pink and white ice-cream and 22 flavours of Kelly's Ice-cream, you can sit in and have luscious waffles, sundaes and milkshakes."
It's not just the humans that can enjoy the ice-cream too. Trevor explained, "We are one of only a handful of dog-friendly places in Southsea seafront. You can bring your dog in and they can sit down with you. Because of that,we offer Frozzy's lactose-free dog ice-cream."
Ice-ream parlours have had something of a revival recently and Trevor thinks it's down to people's appetite for all things retro. He added, "They'are working again. In this day and age we love to go out and socialise and these are just another extension of that. People aren't always going to the pub now, they are going to coffee shops so there is the coffee shop culture and now there's ice-cream parlour culture as well."
