Police Appeal for Witnesses Following Street Robbery in Hitchin

Published: 10th October 2017 11:01
Detectives in Hitchin are urgently seeking the public's assistance following a street robbery which took place on Monday (October 9th) afternoon.

The victim, an 82-year-old woman, was in Elmside Walk which is near Brand Street and Old Park Road when the incident happened at around 3.20pm.

The offender snatched the victim's black handbag and during the scuffle the elderly lady lost her footing and fell to the ground, sustaining a head injury that needed hospital treatment. The offender then made off.

DC Kathryn Marshall, from the Local Crime Unit is investigating and explained: "At this stage we believe the victim was potentially targeted by the offender who may have been following her before the robbery occurred. We need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything to come forward.

"This has been a dreadful experience for the victim but thankfully robberies like this are unusual but we need to identify the offender as quickly as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to ring the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference G1/17/3141.
