Good News For Rural Properties in Rossendale

Last night's Full Council meeting brought smiles to the faces of many local people living in the more rural areas of Rossendale, as the decision to centralise refuse collections was overturned.

Residents living in outlying properties had previously been told that they would need to take their refuse to central locations for collection, in an attempt to save money. However, following a period of consultation, which included almost 100 meetings with owners of the properties affected, Council members voted for, not only the reinstatement of doorstep collections for these properties, but also that they would benefit from the recycling services currently offered to other properties throughout Rossendale.
The cost to the Rossendale Council of the reinstatement of doorstep collections is likely to be £38,000 this year and £51,000 in subsequent years.
