Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June sees the seventh Relay for Life event take place at Mark Pits, Rawtenstall, and what an event it looks set to be!
Warming up for Relay for Life
The weekend of fundraising for Cancer Research UK will start off with an evening of live entertainment at Rossendale Rugby Club, where the Houghton Weavers will be joined by the 2nd Rossendale Scout Band. The evening will start at 7.30pm.
Then, at 11.00am on Saturday, the Relay for Life fun begins with a Survivors Lap - a time when those who have survived cancer take to the track to show their support for the event... With live music and activities throughout the day, the event is an upbeat, positive event, which will see teams take to the track at Marl Pits in a mega 24-hour relay.
You can go along to show your support for the teams, or to help with fundraising. We'll be popping down to decorate candle of hope bags, which show messages of support for those fighting cancer, hope for survivors, and remembrance for those who sadly lost their fight, and light the way for walkers during the hours of darkness.
There will be activities for children, teens and adults throughout the day, and around 10.00pm participants gather for the Candle of Hope Ceremony, which provides an opportunity to remember why the event takes place.
In previous years the event has seen sunshine and torrential rain... Fingers crossed for a sunny weekend!
Good luck to everyone involved.
