Monday 7th January 2013 saw the Directors of Towcester's Vision Youth Café invite the local community to their Annual General Meeting to present their report and financial statements for 2012.

Zoe Church, Chair and Founder of Vision, outlined the main aims of Vision as providing a safe place for young people to go, someone to talk to and something to do as well as enabling young people to design, direct and deliver services, ensuring a youth voice in Towcester. Vision has been very busy over the past year fulfilling its mission and purpose for the community, the team detailed the difficulty in doing so due to the current austerity measures.  However the team has overcome these challenges and looks forward to 2013.

The team shared their highlights from 2012 and thanked all their supporters, partners and users for their hard work.

‘In January Vision gained Awards for All Funding from the National Lottery to provide three urban art events for young people by young people. The six month long project saw over thirty young people join the youth steering group to plan and deliver the fantastic Project V events, over the course of the project young people gained a wealth of skills, training and voluntary accreditation as well as meeting new friends and having a lot of fun!

"We were also very proud to have our services recognised and  be invited to join in the diamond jubilee celebrations and be invited to attend the voluntary and charity sector dinner in June at Burghley House.  We also had the honour of accepting the High Sheriffs Award for our work with the Soundbox project at this year’s Northamptonshire Community Foundation Awards.

"Finally as always we have been busy fundraising with supermarket collections and community fundraisers bringing new opportunities and services to our users including an in-house sexual health drop-in, anti-bullying services and drugs awareness training for the staff and volunteers.’

Vision presented certificates to their young volunteers Natasha Rendell, 17, Gina Thomas-Lord, 18 and Christopher Beaton, 18 for their outstanding voluntary commitment and hard work over 2012.

Vision would like to thank all of their volunteers for their dedication and hard work, without them Vision would not be celebrating its sixth birthday.

Vision 2013 is set to be even busier with the aims of developing financial sustainability, consulting with young people about new services, activities, events and opportunities and continuing to strengthen and champion youth involvement.
