Eggseptional Donation from Minehead Lions

Author: Stephen Wawman Published: 29th March 2012 12:48

The Minehead and District Lions Club were pleased to be able to present Danesfield School, Williton, with a cheque for £450 to help with their regular trips to the Conquest Centre near Taunton.

The Centre specialises in assisting children with physical or mental difficulties in learning to horse ride. As well as the physical stimulation that this provides the children, it also gives them an opportunity to develop social skills outside of the school environment.

It was obvious from the smiles on the faces of the children at the centre that this is a very rewarding experience for them. Lion Steve Wells had organised the donation, but, unfortunately was unable to be present on the day.

The Lions Club was represented by Lion President Stephen Wawman and Lion Jim Beer, with Cheryl McGuinness and Sian Moore receiving the cheque on behalf of Danesfield School.

The money donated came from the Lions Club's 2011 Easter Egg raffle, run in 12 West Somerset pubs and restaurants. Funds from the raffle were also used back in December to run a Christmas party for children with learning difficulties, which also involved some of the children from Danesfield School.

The Lions Club is repeating its Easter Egg raffle again this year, and visitors to many local pubs and restaurants will again see a Lions Club giant chocolate Egg! Money raised this year will also go to help local children in a variety of ways over the next 12 months.
