Packed Programme Of Half Term Fun At  Rugby Art Gallery

CREATIVE youngsters can enjoy a packed programme of half-term holiday fun at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum.

The SMART programme launches on Friday 12 February with a Valentine's themed Love Heart Hunt, which runs throughout the holiday week.

Youngsters can search for the love hearts hidden throughout the Little Elborow Street venue, with one successful hunter winning a prize.

On Tuesday 16 February a free Kawaii Balloons workshop runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The drop-in session celebrates the Art Gallery's new exhibition, Kawaii - Crafting the Japanese Culture of Cute, and gives youngsters the chance to make cute creations from balloons.

A Masks and Bags workshop on Wednesday 17 February also takes inspiration from kawaii. The free drop-in session runs from 2pm to 4pm and children can make a bag or mask to take home.

Youngsters can step back in time on Thursday 18 November at a free Revive the Romans workshop, making a Roman headdress before exploring the Museum's Roman costume box.

Children can also turn archaeologist and piece together a pottery-inspired jigsaw at the drop-in session, which runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The SMART programmes closes with Paint and Glaze sessions on Friday 19 February and Saturday 20 February.

Youngsters can paint plates, cups and more at the sessions, which run from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Prices start from £8.

Cllr Heather Timms, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for culture, said:
"The SMART programme offers a wide range of activities to inspire young, creative minds during the half-term holiday.

"It also offers a perfect opportunity to explore what else Rugby Art Gallery and Museum has to offer, including the new exhibition, Kawaii - Crafting the Japanese Culture of Cute."

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all SMART activities.

The Art Gallery and Museum's Rocco's coffee shop opens throughout the week, selling a selection of drinks and snacks.
