Moseley Village Band
| Published: 4th April 2008 16:26 |
The Band meets on 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm at St Columba's Church Hall, corner of Alcester Road and Chantry Road, Birmingham B13 8DD.
- Day workshop with Brian McNeill on Sunday 27 April
- Brian McNeill in concert, Saturday 26 April
All musicians are welcome at band meetings, and it's only £3 a session (£1.50 concessions). Come prepared to learn lively traditional tunes in several parts. If you read music, bring a music stand, but if you play by ear, that's fine.
The band's history
The band's first outing was playing for Moseley Morris Big Dance as part of the 2006 Moseley Festival. Since then we have played twice at the annual All Saints Craft Fayre in Kings Heath.
In early July we launched the All Saints Church Fete in Kings Heath, where the sky miraculously cleared after days of rain.
In June 07 the band made a major contribution to a Music by Candlelight concert in St Mary's Church as part of the Moseley Festival. The choirmaster thought it was about 150 years since a Village Band had played in this historic church and invited us back in December to share the platform with the Nova Wind Quintet in a Christmas concert, complete with carols and seasonal refreshment. It was a very cold night and the heating didn't work! but here are some photos of the pre-concert rehearsal.
