South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) is providing some invaluable experience for its first young apprentice, as part of a new national initiative which aims to help young people who are currently out of work and at the same time encourage local businesses to provide apprenticeships and work experience opportunities.
Amie Rickatson, 18, from Brackley learnt about the scheme from information on the council’s website. Seven months on she is now encouraging new Job Club members to apply for an apprenticeship as part of her work experience, where she is also working towards her National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level two qualification in housing and administration.
She has already gained invaluable skills in customer service, administration and research within SNC’s Housing Options and Money Advice, and Economic Development teams. Amie is also now the first point of contact at the Job Club sessions held at Brackley and Towcester.
Councillor Rupert Fordham, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration, said: “We are delighted to have been able to offer Amie an apprenticeship and hope that the experience she has gained with us will enable her to go on to find permanent employment, once she has completed her time with us.
“I would encourage any local business thinking of offering apprenticeships to go for it, as our experience has shown it can be such a positive experience for all concerned.”
South Northamptonshire Council Job Clubs are held weekly alternating between Brackley Town Hall and Towcester Town Hall. For further information please visit www.southnorthants.gov.uk/jobclub, telephone SNC Economic Development Team on 01327 322266 or email email@example.com.
