Grand Union Housing Group (GUHG) is staging a Green for Greens Day across all its offices on June 20, to mark the launch of its major sustainability project ‘Greening the Group.’
The social housing provider, which comprises Aragon and MacIntyre Housing Associations and South Northants Homes, has set up a series of events for its 300 staff across three offices to raise awareness of the need to get greener.
Chief Executive Alan Humphreys is aiming to walk or cycle to work, staff are car sharing and making an effort to use conference calls for groupwide meetings and reduce their travel.
Dave Lakin, Head of New Business & Development, who is leading the Greening the Group project, said: “This event is a great way for us to show everyone in the Group what kind of work is going on behind the scenes to make GUHG a greener organisation.
“Being green isn’t just about the environment; it is about economics and educating people on what they can do to help. We are keen to work on ways we can operate more greenly as an organisation and help our customers live more sustainably lives in their homes and communities.
"Over the last six months the Group has been looking at four key areas of its operation, its business and offices, its new homes, existing homes and residents, and working out what it could change as part of a sustainability strategy to improve in all these areas.
As the owner of 10,000 homes across Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and the East Midlands, GUHG has embarked on its Greening the Group Project to improve the green credentials of not only its business but also of the homes for its customers.
Its subsidiary Aragon has already successfully completed a project to fit 350 of its homes with solar panels this year and it is keen to look at other ways it can drive its forward on the green front.
Green for Greens Day also launched the Group’s Greening Community day later in the year in which staff are volunteering to work hands on with residents to carry out a number green projects in local communities.
GUHG has also produced a video to promote its green ambitions which can be viewed at
