Waltham Abbey's New Mayor Announced

At the Annual Meeting of Waltham Abbey Town Council, by a unanimous vote by council members, Cllr Elizabeth Webster became the Mayor of Waltham Abbey for the Civic Year 2012/13.
On Thursday 24th May 2012, the outgoing Mayor Cllr Antony Watts congratulated Cllr Webster on her appointment as he invested her with the chain of office.
Cllr Webster gave a brief address to the assembled meeting and guests, saying "I am so proud to be taking on this role, following in my grandfather's, and both parents' footsteps as Town Mayor to this unique town, and I am delighted to be appointed to the post in this most important year for the town".
One of the first duties as Mayor, Cllr Webster will cutting the Jubilee cake at Sun Street Party on Tuesday 5th June. Followed by meeting Marina Mightier giant champion in the Sparks Will Fly event at the Waltham Abbey Town Show on Sunday 24th June and presenting her with a glass bead which Marina will take on her epic journey around every corner of Essex before she meets Boreas to play the game in Chelmsford on 6th July.
The Mayor's next exciting public task will be the honour of greeting the Olympic Torch on Saturday 7th July 2012 when it arrives in our town at 8.25am.
Cllr Stuart Pryde (former Leader of Council) was also unanimously agreed as Deputy Mayor for the forthcoming year. Other appointments included Cllr Richard James as Leader of Council and Cllr Antony Watts as his Deputy.
