Beverley To Celebrate Armed Forces Day

This Sunday, Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, will celebrate the fourth consecutive Beverley Armed Forces Day, commemorating the sacrifice of those serving in the Armed Forces

Held at the historic Saturday Market Place, the community will welcome the displays of military pride, including a Drum Head service, a Tiger Moth fly pass and parades by Army, Air and Training Corps.

Graham congratulated the community for their efforts and contributions to this year's event, after Olympic and Diamond Jubilee celebrations brought the idea of cancellation into question. However, with voluntary donations from local residents, the Chairman of Beverley Armed Forces Day, Councillor David Elvidge, was able to make the necessary arrangements to ensure the event would go ahead as planned.

Councillor Elvidge said, "This year more than ever, the event is a great example of a community working together to put on a show to entertain not only our Armed Forces but our residents and visitors alike whilst sharing in the spirit of what the day is about."

At this weekend's event, Graham will recite a poem entitled "Life and Eternity", written by an officer from a Yorkshire regiment on his way to Normandy in 1944, to commemorate the spirit of Yorkshire soldiers past and present.

Graham added, "We are all incredibly grateful for the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, and this weekend's event will not only commemorate those who have served in the military, but demonstrate our gratitude for those currently serving, and our admiration for those joining the Armed Forces in the future".
