Join the Joggers - Silson Joggers AC begin a new membership year
Have you ever run a race and seen the one of the Silson Joggers? You will know if you have; they will be the ones in the green and yellow vests/black, yellow, and green t-shirts and they will have had the noisiest supporters at the event! So, if you have seen them, have you ever thought of joining them? Maybe you thought about it but were worried that you will be left behind or were afraid that it would require more commitment than your life style can give? Well, that’s probably what most of the clubs members thought before they went along to a training session – then they were hooked! Here’s why…..
The Silson Joggers AC are a small and friendly club who welcome new members of all abilities! Whether you are looking to run longer distances or cut time off your PB, Silson is the club for you. During the summer season the club train on a Friday evening (from 6.45pm) at Stowe Schools’ prestigious athletics track.
Then from September, and during the winter months, the club train on a Wednesday evening (from 6.30pm) at the magnificent Silverstone Racing Circuit. They train in all weathers, rain or shine and pride themselves on their nurturing team spirit – everyone encourages and supports everyone else.
As well as weekly training sessions which run throughout the year, the club organises group runs which take place on Sunday mornings (starting at 8.30am in different locations each week). These group runs tend to cover distances between 6 and 14 miles, depending on what each runner wants to achieve. The run is led by a member who plans out different routes for varying distances. It’s a hugely social affair, everyone starts and finishes in the same location (nobody is ever left behind) and the run generally ends with refreshments.
Then, to put their training to good use, the club compete in the Chiltern Cross Country League, the East Midlands Grand Prix Series, and the NAA Road Running Series, throughout the year. These are fantastic team events are a great opportunity to score a PB, as well as points for the club! In addition to these competitions, the club operates its own two inter-club competitions (one in winter and one throughout the summer). Members can take part in as much, or as little as fits in with your running needs, ability, and life style.
On May 31st 2014, the Silson Joggers AC held their AGM. Amongst the formalities they took time to celebrate individual as well as club successes. The seniors and the juniors have achieved some outstanding results in the past year in the Chiltern League and in recent road running and athletics events. All in all, it was a joyous and prideful occasion. So, with the AGM marking the end of the clubs financial year, they are now in the process of renewing memberships for the year ahead (June 2014-May 2015). Membership is £20 per annum for adults and £15 for juniors (although there is currently a waiting list for our junior team). Therefore, now is the time to join the club to ensure that you make the most of your years membership – what are you waiting for????
