Towcestrians 16 - 24 Kettering RFC

Towcestrians entertained table toppers Kettering in front of a very large Vice Presidents day crowd on Saturday, starting very brightly taking the game to the visitors Tows showed that league positions meant nothing, playing with a strong wind at their backs Tows dominated the early possession and looked the most likely to score first until a yellow card to all action back rower, Tom Threlfall after 15 minutes, slowed their momentum, giving line out ball to the visitors on the Tows 22, who moved it quickly to score wide out.

Tows came back with a score through the forwards, a five metre scrum driven over by the pumped up Tows pack, Craig Holton coming up with the ball, James Falvey's conversion putting the home side 7 - 5 up, Falvey continued the good form with the boot with a long range penalty to extend Tows lead to 10 - 5 , the half ending with a Threlfall break halted just short of the line.

The second half started well for Tows, Falvey knocking over another penalty for Tows to lead the somewhat surprised Kettering team 13 - 5, Tows should have heeded the warning when Kettering full-back, Joe Daniels, knocked over a monster penalty with the wind, that discipline would be crucial in this second half, but when Callum Threlfall was penalised for what looked to be a completely legal tackle the game changed, Davies second long range penalty closed the gap to 13 - 11 and then Kettering were ecstatic when they pushed the tiring Tows pack over the line for their own pushover try, converted to extend the lead to five points, Falvey responded with another penalty before Kettering took the game out of reach with two late penalties to win 16 - 24 and deny Tows the losing bonus point which their performance warranted at the very least.
