At the South Northants Council by-election held yesterday in Middleton Cheney, Liberal Democrat Mark Allen just missed out on winning what had previously been a very safe Conservative seat. Lib Dem candidate and parish councillor Mark Allen created a massive swing away from the Tories to the Liberal Democrats.

Liberal Democrat Mark Allen says: “Many thanks to everyone who supported my campaign and voted for me. I really appreciate the trust that you put in me and I promise to continue to work and campaign for the things that matter to Middleton Cheney and all its residents.

I have already congratulated the Conservative candidate on becoming one of our two District Councillors in Middleton Cheney. I look forward to seeing him regularly at our monthly parish council meetings and working with him on the issues affecting local people.”

Liberal Democrat Councillor Martin Johns said: “People are very concerned at the cuts to local services and the incompetence by the Conservatives that has left our county council bankrupt. Many have also recognised how hard Mark Allen works for people in Middleton Cheney. This was the very first time the Liberal Democrats have contested a district council election in Middleton Cheney. The Lib Dems are now very clearly the main opposition to the Conservatives in this area.”

The results from the Middleton Cheney District by-election are as follows:

Mark Allen, Liberal Democrats    316    34%

Conservatives             391    42%

Green                     38    4%

Labour                183    20%

934 ballots were issued, 6 were rejected.

Turnout was 28.5%

Looks like the community of Middleton Cheney have dipped out badly by not electing this chap as their local representative.
