A valued community centre in Greens Norton has received a £40,000 improvement grant from South Northamptonshire Council (SNC).
The Greens Norton Community Centre has served the village for ten years, providing a space for residents to host family occasions and access community groups, fitness classes, and adult education.
The £40,000 Community Grant has helped pay for developing a meeting room, kitchen, toilets, and the fitting out of existing changing room facilities.
Cllr Peter Rawlinson, portfolio holder for finance and procurement, said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer financial support for improvements to this valuable village amenity, as it is important that the community has facilities to cope with the increasing population in the area.”
Ken Nicoll, Chair of Trustees for the community centre, added: “It has been a well-used community centre for around a decade now, and the main building has hosted many family milestones, community groups, sports clubs and events.
“With its growing popularity, it was getting to the point where we needed to provide more facilities to cater for this. So we are extremely thankful to SNC for helping us make this a reality.”
SNC Community Grants are mainly funded by the New Homes Bonus (NHB), a grant paid to local authorities by central government for every new home built within the district.
They are available to any not for profit organisations located in or associated with the district.
A wide range of projects and activities may be eligible for help, including capital projects (buildings and infrastructure), as well as smaller projects such as supporting the purchase of much needed equipment or the delivery of local schemes.
