Silverstone’s first team match at home to Bodicote was, unfortunately, called off when the visitors could not raise a team.  As a result attention turned to the second team who were playing just over the Warwickshire border at Flecknoe.   Could the seconds develop from their impressive victory last week against league leaders, Woodford Halse?

Silverstone batted first on a hot afternoon with Simon Mackay and Gwyn Roberts.  The score progressed well under Roberts was bowled by Matt Binder for 23.  This brought captain Ben Cooper to the crease and he took the initiative until he was bowled by Ben Darby for a quick fire 64.  Kieran Judd moved onto 10 before he was bowled by Kaamil Walilay.  The chase for late runs saw Khush Sudhu off the mark first ball with a 6 but then bowled by Dan McCallion, Iwan Roberts bowled by Tom Falkingham for 1, Alex Nikel caught Dave Annetts bowled McCallion for 2 and Fergus Moran bowled by  Falkingham for 4.  Simon Mackay carried his bat through the 40 overs for 44 not out, with Tony Wallinger 1 not out.  Silverstone finished on 208-7 helped also by 53 extras.

A splendid tea was taken before Silverstone took the field.  With a fast outfield meaning that the ball ran quickly to the boundary.  Silverstone broke through when Dave Johnson was bowled for 11 by Iwan Roberts, quickly followed by Andrew Brown, caught by wicketkeeper Simon Mackay bowled Fergus Moran for 4.  Mackay then started to feel the effects of this marathon innings and was replaced behind the stumps by Ben Cooper.  Matt Binder took his score to 13 before he was bowled by Fergus Moran.  Kaamil Walilay batted well before being caught by Khush Sidhu off the bowling of Tony Wallinger for 28.  There then followed hitting from Sam Olive before he was run out in farcical fashion.  With Kieran Judd bowling, he skied a shot that went a long way up but was watched by Judd and Alex Nikel.  As the ball hit the turf near the wicket, it then ended up in the covers and the two batsman set off for a run.  Smart fielding by Jacob Smith saw Oliver run out for 13.  Ben Darby was caught off the bowling of Tony Wallinger for 0.  Further wickets fell to Tony Wallinger with Dan McCallion bowled for 0, Tom Falkingham caught by Ben Cooper for 10 and Dave Annetts bowled.  The final wicket fell to Kieran Judd who bowled Mark Atkins for 17 leaving McKenzie Brown 0 not out.  The Flecknoe innings ended on 107 all out.  Fergus Moran 7-0-25-2, iwan Roberts 5-0-40-1, Tony Wallinger 5.3-2-15-5 and Kieran Judd 4-1-21-1

Silverstone won by 101 runs.

On Saturday 21st July 2018, the first team are at home to Wroxton in the Premier Division and the second team away at Thornborough in division 4.
