"I was pointed in the direction of the website, and my first thought was 'not another flash-in-the-pan idea that will be full of spam, irrelevent adverts etc'. How wrong I was!"

1st Silverstone Brownies Back In Action!

Published: 4th March 2008 11:09
After a break of 12 years, the 1st Silverstone Brownies have been reformed under new leadership. They were able to set up the group in January this year, due to a very generous donation of £385.00 from the Northamptonshire Running Club, Silson Joggers. This amount paid for the annual Girl Guiding Insurance for all of the Brownies until 2009.

The popular concept has already generated a waiting list of girls, eager to join in the Brownie Adventure. Christine Branch, Brown Owl, said, “The Brownies movement provides an excellent grounding for growing children and it is important to encourage them to realise their full potential as individuals whilst having fun”.

John Fowler of Silson Joggers said, “We are delighted to be supporting Silverstone Brownies and recognise the importance of organisations such as the Brownies for the development of children. Sport plays an important role in this”.

The presentation of the cheque from Silson Joggers will be held on Monday 10th March at 6.30pm at the Silverstone Infant School Hall, High Street, Silverstone. Please contact Christine Branch on 01327 858673 for more information.

About the 1st Silverstone Brownies

1st Silverstone Brownies first started in 1972 until 1996 and was run by Margaret Floyd, Moira Firth, Joan Lidgard, Marion Austin and Carole Flynn. 12 years on Brownies returns to Silverstone. It started on 28th Jan 2008 with 24 Brownies and 4 Leaders:- Christine Branch (Brown Owl), Nici Fenables (Snowy Owl), Chris Moore (Tawny Owl), and Lizzy Baldwin as the Young Leader also doing her Duke of Edinburgh Award. Brownie meetings are on a Monday eve 6-7.30pm (term time) at Silverstone Infants School Hall

Every Brownie will be guided through her ‘Brownie Adventure’ which will be fun, dynamic and easy to manage. Brownies is bright and modern with a framework that encourages each girl to realise her full potential and progress through Brownies by taking part in a variety of fun, interesting and challenging activities. We aim to guide and nurture every individual to understand beliefs, morals and values; we encourage self esteem and self worth; provide and help to put into practice knowledge of how she can contribute to her communities and awareness of the world in which she lives. The ‘Brownie Adventure’ will have lots of games, crafts and people with special interests and skills who will visit from time to time and show us new and exciting topics plus we hope to arrange some trips (funds permitting).

A Brownie always tries their best and does a good turn every day.
