John (Jack) Woodward, Landlord of The Boat Inn, Stoke Bruerne 1924 to 2008.
John (Jack) Woodward who passed away on the 18th May 2008 has now been laid to rest under the terms of his will.
From early on he felt the churchyard was too cold a place to be after life and requested that his ashes be placed in an oak casket under a particular flagstone by the open fire in the Top Bar of The Boat Inn surmounted by a plaque with the inscription.
"Stand here and have a drink on Me - Jack 1924-2008"
Jack, as he was known to all, lived his whole life at The Boat Inn. After his father's death in 1937 he assisted his mother in running the family business and continued until the 1990s.
He was well known by many for his friendly and most generous nature and never had a bad word about anyone.
