Supermarket chain Waitrose is planting trees across the UK to celebrate its 75th anniversary of being part of the John Lewis Partnership. Waitrose Towcester have planted a total of 24 trees at Towcester Schools  during February.

Speaking to AboutMyArea/NN12 Waitrose in Towcester said "We planted eleven trees at Towcester CE Primary, a mixture of native British trees and fruit trees, five decorative trees at Sponne and a further seven fruit trees and a larch at Nicholas Hawksmoor.

"We are very grateful to Ian and Paul Morgan from Payne's Nursery in Towcester for their help and advice throughout the project."

A fund equivalent to £7.50 per Waitrose Partner has been made available to every branch across the country to help them celebrate the 75th anniversary.  Every Waitrose shop is putting  all or part of this fund towards a tree planting project in their local community.

Waitrose Towcester has worked closely with Paynes Nursery, Towcester, to supply and plant the trees, with a team of Partners from the branch.

The idea of planting trees to mark the 75th anniversary came from Partners after Waitrose Managing Director, Mark Price, asked for suggestions to be put forward. Planting trees gives a sense of heritage and legacy, as well as having a positive impact on the environment which is an important part of the retailer’s corporate and social responsibility policy, the Waitrose way.

Waitrose Towcester Branch Manager, Mike Stephenson, said, “Tree planting is a fantastic way to celebrate our 75 years as part of the John Lewis Partnership. We are delighted to be doing something positive in the local community, as well as having something longstanding to commemorate this milestone. It was an activity that all of our Partners could get involved with and great fun too!”
