A5 through Towcester to become one way Southbound towards the Town Hall
There has been a great deal of discussion and information on AboutMyArea/NN12 about the parking in Towcester's market square that is going to be reduced with a Highways Agency scheme to help reduce pollution at the pinch point near the town hall.
AboutMyArea/NN12 can reveal that there are more ambitious plans for Towcester market square with the A5 trunk road in Towcester becoming one way.
The A5 from Richmond Road to the Brackley Road/Northampton Road junction will become southbound only.
The northbound traffic will be rerouted along Richmond Road, past Waitrose and the back of the Co Op car park before continuing along Queens Road to join Brackley Road before meeting the current A5 at the Saracen's Head junction.
Speaking to AboutMyArea/NN12 a spokesman said, "The A5 will be southbound only to give drivers the best view of Towcester's market place and Town Hall, the carriageway will be reduced to one lane and will provide an additional 235 car parking spaces along the route.
"Some car parking will be lost on Richmond Road for safety reasons, but we believe the scheme will alleviate congestion, pollution and make Towcester's market place a safer shopping and business environment.
"We will begin consulting with the residents of Queens Road in the next phase."
"Work is expected to be finished by noon on 1st April 2014"
