Patients are encouraged to use online services offered by their GP
Patients in Northamptonshire can now benefit from GP online services which make it easier to book appointments and order repeat prescriptions. NHS Nene Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is encouraging patients to use the online services, which are now available from the majority of GP practices in Northamptonshire.
Many practices in Northamptonshire offer GP online services, including appointment booking, ordering of repeat prescriptions, and access to summary information in records.
GP online services is an NHS England programme designed to support GP practices to offer and promote online services to patients, including access to coded information in records, appointment booking and ordering of repeat prescriptions.
Once patients have signed up, they will be able to:
- book or cancel appointments online with a GP or nurse,
- renew or order repeat prescriptions online
- view parts of their GP health record, including information about medication, allergies, vaccinations, previous illnesses and test results
The services available to patients will depend on the online system their GP practice uses. Patients can ask their practice what services they offer when they sign up or visit the GP online section at NHS Choices http://www.nhs.uk
Dr Matthew Davies, Medical Director at NHS Nene CCG, said:
“We would encourage our patients to make the most of the online services that are now available from many GP surgeries. These online services offer the convenience of making an appointment at any time day or night, or requesting a repeat prescription without having to visit the surgery. By freeing up the lines they also make it easier for patients who don’t want to use GP online services to get through by phone.
“Before you can use online services, you need to register at your practice. The registration process verifies a patient’s identity, ensuring no personal details are accessed by others. Once registered, you will have access to all the online services your practice has to offer.
“Services offered by your GP may vary, as might the registration process. Please contact your surgery for more information. Online services do not replace the traditional methods of contacting your GP practice, such as in person or phoning. They simply offer alternative ways to interact with your GP, making it easier and more convenient.”
