I have put my name forward as a candidate for Ness Ward of the Town Council to give voters a choice. I have no links to any political party or to any other council.  I am therefore able to devote all my energies to Neston Town Council.  I intend to judge each issue as it arises on its merits.

In my judgement it is of the greatest importance that the Town Council gives Council Tax payers value for money in everything it does. Over half its annual budget for 2009/10 was spent on simple administrative matters. I would try to see that that excessive cost base is reduced.

All too often money has been spent on items that really give no benefit to Neston citizens. Why, for example, is there a committee dealing with employment in the town. It obviously generates a lot of paper and meetings, but has it ever either saved or created one job for a citizen of Neston?

A second good example of this was the decision to spend £300 of public money, at a time of financial stringency, on a jazz band to entertain a party of round Britain cyclists visiting the town. It is time that the Jazz Band Council changed its ways.

One of the Town Council's duties is to see that the public can safely use all the footpaths and highways of the area. I intend to see that that happens.

I have worked for both local and national government, and I know what are the important things to concentrate on, and what are the questions that need to be asked.

A vote for me on 5^th May would be for a fresh, realistic voice for Ness on Neston Town Council.

Neston Town Council will be taking a large part in the decisions on the re-shaping of central Neston, funded by the development money from Sainsbury's new supermarket and it is essential that the right decisions are made.  Much work has gone into the proposed scheme which will be finalised soon and it is intended to make Neston a more attractive and inviting town centre. As a current town councillor I have been involved with the scheme from the beginning and see the potential for great improvement.

As the town councillor for Ness I have supported the village green application for land off Flashes Lane which has now been confirmed . I have put much effort into obtaining improvements to the footpath to Ness Gardens which should be commenced shortly. I am also working hard to improve the footpath network in the area and am very pleased to see increased commitment to the area by Cheshire West and Chester Council. I dutifully report potholes and areas of road and pavement requiring attention and request (politely) action.

Traffic speeds are a frequent cause for complaint and the new Localism Bill should make it easier and faster to change speed limits. There is a case to be made for reducing the limit on Neston Road from Ness to Burton from 60mph down to 40mph as this straight stretch has seen accidents and near misses.

You may see me walking around this fine area with our rescued whippets -please stop for a chat!
