Family Fun Day at Neston Cricket Club

An extremely well-attended Family Fun Day took place at Neston Cricket Club this weekend.
Despite mixed weather, ranging from belting sunshine to torrential rain, a record-breaking number of people enjoyed a variety of entertainment in and around the Marquee. The Fun Day is an annual event, taking place on the first Sunday of July, following the annual Cricket Club Ball which takes place on the Saturday night. Funds raised will go towards the construction of the new Club House, work on which gets underway in August and is expected to be finished by March 2009.
This year the Mersey Morris Men opened proceedings, and during the afternoon visitors were treated to live music from Arrow Alphabet Fan Club, The Dags, Ray Who and the Henrys and The Kings of Wervin.
Alongside the traditional Junior Kwik Cricket Competition, various other games were on offer, including an entertaining Welly Wanging session, a tug of war and a dance contest for the younger attendees.
A variety of stalls included Oakwood Country Store, the Parkgate Fudge Shop, Makes Sense, the NSPCC and Parkgate Primary School. Face painting, hair braiding and various crafts were also available to keep the youngsters amused, and everyone enjoyed the range of refreshments on offer, from cream teas to a BBQ stocked by Hamilton Clarkes.
