More help for the poorest from generous donors
Neston & District Christian Aid Committee is celebrating a record year. They have sent over £10,000 to Christian Aid to help some of the poorest people in the world.
Lynne Vaughan, Secretary, said "For many people, the recent increases in the price of basic food means that the work of Christian Aid is vital, and we must keep doing our bit to help. I think people are more aware of the needs of others, and it's good that they have been even more generous this year."
Chairman Ken Hulme said "I'd like to thank the collectors from the local churches who took part in the house-to-house collection, the people who joined in the sponsored walk, those who helped in the coffee morning, and the people who have given so generously to all of these. All the money will be channelled through partner organisations working to improve the lives of people in their communities, and none will go to governments for prestige projects."
Eileen Ward, Treasurer, said "I'm delighted we've been able to send a record amount, over £10,000, to Christian Aid. It's specially good that more people this year used Gift Aid, which means that Christian Aid will be able to collect over £1100 extra from the Treasury."
The local Christian Aid committee is part of Neston and District Churches Together, which represents the churches in Burton, Little Neston, Neston, Parkgate and Willaston. Most of the money comes from the house-to-house collection during Christian Aid week in May, but the sponsored walk in March and the Coffee Morning in April also raised more money this year than last.
Christian Aid's motto is ‘We believe in life before death'. They work in 50 countries through local organisations to deliver direct, practical benefits, and campaign to challenge the causes of poverty.
