Neston High School - Investors In People and a Teacher Learning Academy

Published: 23rd July 2008 14:01

Neston High School has just been awarded Investors In People status, a prestigious award recognising its commitment to staff development, welfare and training.

Investors in PeopleThe school was judged to be outstanding in a number of areas. The assessors noted that "Neston High School has a strong reputation as an inclusive school and the school has a clear vision, which is well shared with staff, students and parents."
Leadership and management were judged to be outstanding:

"The school expects its leaders and managers to manage in line with its culture and ethos, to act as positive role models and to encourage staff to develop and progress in order to provide students with the very best learning experiences."

Commenting on the strong culture of the school: "Continuous improvement is integral to the school's culture. The school strongly promotes inclusion and is recognised as an 'Equal School.' This ethos permeates throughout and there is an open and inclusive culture, where people feel confident to put forward their ideas and suggestions for improvement. The Headteacher and Senior Team are keen to provide a range of opportunities to meet the diverse needs of staff."

"There is a culture of peer support and many examples of staff helping each other and learning from colleagues' expertise."

Mr Dool, Headteacher is delighted to receive the award and to continue investing in all members of Neston High School's community.

Neston High achieves Teacher Learning Academy status

Teacher Learning AcademyNeston High School is celebrating the success of it's application to become a TLA Centre. It is only one of 100 schools to achieve this status and one of only two schools in Cheshire. Through the General Teaching Council, the TLA (Teacher Learning Academy) offers public and professional recognition for teachers' learning and development work. It is a national system supported by a framework to accredit and recognise the professional development of teachers.

Research has shown that schools with an ethos where teachers continually learn and apply their learning to new and changing situations, can improve learning at all levels and ultimately that of the students. It has also shown that continuous professional development is most effective when teachers have the opportunity to build on their expertise and experiment with new ideas to enhance innovative teaching and to inspire students in their learning. The TLA framework enables Neston to do just that.

Mrs Hudson, Deputy Headteacher has been trained as a TLA Leader and Mrs Thomas, Professional Learning Mentor along with Mrs Gilmour, Assistant Headteacher are now trained as TLA verifiers. As a TLA Centre, Neston will be known as a centre of excellence for effective teacher learning and will share this expertise with other schools.
