Christmas message from Andrew Miller, MP for Ellesmere Port & Neston

Looking back over a challenging year it can be difficult to be optimistic. The credit crunch has hit us all and the immediate outlook seems gloomy, however one of life's rules is that there's bad in good and good in bad and each of us can help to make a positive difference.
There have been encouraging signs that the world is coming together in its efforts to reduce Global warming. The Government has imposed challenging targets for all industry but these are also opportunities to create new jobs in greener technologies. Despite worrying short term problems the future of Vauxhall Motors is inextricably tied up in cleaner technology.
At this time we should also reflect and remember those less fortunate than ourselves, whether at home or abroad. My thoughts are with those who are coping with illness or who are alone during the Christmas season and also with the many people in our essential services who will be working and who deserve our thanks. We must also remember the brave men and women of our armed forces who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I do hope that the people of Ellesmere Port and Neston will enjoy a very happy holiday season and that 2009 will see a world recovering from difficult times to become a better place for everyone.
