The Minister for the North West Beverley Hughes has backed 'Real help for the North West' - a document that will help families and businesses struggling with the impact of the economic downturn to take advantage.

The document was launched by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown on a recent visit to the region and sets out help that is available in the North West and where to find it.

The booklet also sets out how Britain is taking decisive action to come through the global economic crisis sooner, stronger and fairer and investment in the North West

Beverley Hughes gave her backing to the document at the fourth meeting of the Joint Economic Council for the North West, which was set up by the Minister to help fight the region's corner during the current difficult economic times.

Minister for the North West Beverley Hughes said:

"Like all regions of the UK, the North West is facing its share of challenges. Our priority is to ensure that the region is well placed to both weather the recession and quickly take advantage of the recovery.

"This booklet describes the real help now available to families and businesses and spells out the investment in skills and infrastructure taking place."
