The park has been given a £115,000 make-over by Groundwork Merseyside, courtesy of funding from the former Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council with help from Marks & Spencers' Plan A community fund.
Former councillors Tom Marlow and Derek Gaskell who both campaigned for many years to have improvements made to the park, were warmly praised for their efforts by Cheshire West and Chester councillor Scott Mealor who cut the red tape to declare the revamped park officially open.
Gary Rolls represented Marks & Spencer, though he was quick to point out that much of the credit for supporting the project goes to Sheena Holland, M&S's Chester Plan A Champion.
Various activities took place throughout the afternoon, including Bird of Prey displays, live music, crafts, games and bulb planting. Hamilton Clarkes provided a Hog Roast and Barbecue.
The bulb-planting was overseen by Mary Lavery, Parks Development Officer for CWAC, who said:
"It's been a great day, it's terrific to see the new play equipment being so well used.
"We have been planting freesias today, with the help of people of all ages from the local community.
"I would be delighted to work with a Friends group for West Vale Park, so if there are people who would be interested in keeping an eye on the park, perhaps organising future plantings or occasional events, please get in touch."
