Party ideas for New Year's Eve

Published: 21st December 2010 09:43

Fancy Dress Party

martini glassesWhy not have a party at your house? You could invite your friends and family round and have a great laugh by making everyone dress up!  The fancy dress could be anything you want it to be. Let people dress up however they want or why not go for a theme?

You could tell your guests to come dressed as people who have been in the public eye a lot during 2009; this could include Amy Winehouse, Katie Price, Barak Obama and Russell Brand, for example. Don't worry too much about food as it may cause you a lot of stress. Ask your guests to eat something before they arrive as you will only putting out a few snacks, or ask everyone to bring something to add to the buffet.

To make it an affordable night for everyone make your party BYOB, Bring Your Own Bottle. That way there will be plenty to drink without one person having to spend a fortune.

And for that traditional sing-along at the end....

Auld Lang Syne
by Rabbie Burns (1759-96)

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup of kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

New Years EveAnd surely ye'll be your pint-stowp,
And surely I'll be mine,
And we'll tak a cup o kindness yet,
For auld lang syne!

We twa hae run about the braes,
And pou'd the gowans fine,
But we've wander'd monie a weary fit,
Sin auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty fiere,
And gie's a hand o thine,
And we'll tak a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne
