Neston subway gets an unusual makeover

In a project organised by Neston Civic Society, funded by Connexions and Project Rural Matters, local young people have been helping to decorate the subway at Neston railway station - with graffiti!
Usually the sight of youths with spray cans would have the local bobbies rushing to the scene, but in this case, the work they have completed is what is known as a Graffiti Art Mural. It cleverly combines the signatures, or "tags" of the young artists with graffiti-style images of the locality, including a fantasic representation of Neston Town Hall.
Between 20 and 30 young people from the Neston area have been in attendance over the last couple of days, as project leader and designer Andy Birch (aka Dime One), a specialist in Graffiti Art, guided them through the transformation of the subway walls.
The project has been co-financed by local community safety organisation Project Rural Matters and Connexions (Cheshire youth service). Our photos above and below will give you some idea of how the decoration is shaping up, but it's best seen first-hand, so make sure you go and take a look. The subway runs underneath the platforms of Neston Railway station, and is accessible from the ALDI car park in Ladies Walk.
And a special thank-you to the co-sponsors of the project...

Accommodating the needs of our kids is just as important as holding on to tradition. If we can continue improve this balance, then Neston has a healthy future.
Just looking at the pictures above, the transformation of a tatty subway to a colourful canvas is brilliant and just what we need !
A BIG well done to the talented artists who did this !
Right - where is the next blank canvas, there are lots of dull places that could do with a lick of paint !
and to all the young people who got involved and had a go, even if they felt they were limited in artistic ability.
also the for the support to the sponsors of the project over the 2 days.
there will still be chance for other young people to get involved in activeties and projects in the near future from the youth zone at the local community centre.
cheerz!! - andy - dime one
