Mostyn House closure marked with Chapel Service

Published: 6th July 2010 10:50

The end of a significant era in Parkgate's history was marked by a Chapel Service this weekend.

Current pupils, parents, teachers, friends and Old Mostynians took part in the service at Mostyn House School's beautiful Chapel on Sunday 4th July.

Guests were also invited to tour the school, the Geoffrey Place Range (also known as The Dive) and the Cottage.

Established in 1854, the Mostyn House has been forced to close it's doors due to falling numbers and the ongoing effects of the recession. The Governors recently announced that the School's last day will be Wednesday 7th July.

its a shame but wouldnt it be nice to keep it open as a museum or tourist attraction.... please dont let a developer get their hands on it ..... and turn it into flats or offices ...... such an old building needs to be preserved for future generations ..... we have lost too many of our old places that have been ruined and turned into flats .... lets keep mostyn house school as it is and open it up to the public for tours etc ...........

My thoughts go out to all the children and staff involved in the school. Athough not a pupil myself, it must be extremely hard to lose a place you all are fond of. Hopefully the range will remain open, as I have enjoyed many hours there myself. I hope all the children find a school they are happy at, and the staff find themselves equally rewarding jobs. My major concern is that Mostyn House will not be the last to close, after the cutbacks announced recently.
