The Spring into Sport scheme is aimed at providing local athletes with financial support and encouragement throughout their training programme. This will include helping with travel, accommodation and equipment costs along with many other training and competition expenses.
More than 60 local athletes applied for one of the 14 sporting grants available across three categories; Elite, Regional and Club. The successful applicants were invited to the celebration evening to collect their grant before putting it to good use.
Local recipients of the grants included young tennis players Harry McMaster aged 10, Alice Goldstraw aged 7 (both from Neston) and Isabelle Nicol, aged 8, from Parkgate.
Councillor Stuart Parker, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, said: "The Cheshire West and Chester area has a number of remarkably talented and dedicated athletes and I hope that this grant will go some way to helping them achieve their potential."
