Wirral Hedgehog Rescue Says Check Your Bonfires Carefully
Published: 3rd November 2011 14:43 |
Wirral Hedgehog Rescue have issued a plea to local residents celebrating Bonfire Night to check their bonfires carefully.
They echo advice from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society who liken bonfires to 'hedgehog hotels,' as the hogs tend to sleep under them for warmth at this time of year.
The advice is, if possible, to re-site the bonfire entirely before lighting. If that is not possible, use broom handles to lift from the base of the pile and shine torches, looking and listening carefully for any signs of life.
