Neston Motorists Warned to Observe Parking Restrictions

Published: 20th March 2012 14:51

Neston motorists are advised to pay close attention to parking restrictions following a revamp of yellow lines in the town centre.

yellow linesParking enforcement in the town has been relatively relaxed over recent months as many lines needed refreshing. Now, however, Cheshire West and Chester Council's Highways department has completed a project to refresh both the yellow lines and the associated pavement-mounted signs.

This is due to be followed up by regular visits to the area by the Council's parking enforcement team.  They will also be paying close attention to trucks loading and unloading outside business premises, to ensure that motorists and pedestrians are not being inconvenienced by delivery vehicles obstructing the highway or pavements.

Residents and visitors to the town are reminded that there is free, long term (unrestricted) parking available in the Chester Road Car Park (accessible from both Chester Road and Brook Street) and at Station Road Car Park.  Parking for up to 3 hours, free, is available at the Multi-Storey car park in Brook Street.

Hopefully,at least a couple of spaces have been left outside Natwest Bank for those who wish to use the 'hole in the wall'?

But I would not bet on it.

I for one am pleased that at last we will get some enforcement of parking restrictions, well, until I get a ticket myself of course. It seems almost daily there is a traffic jam caused by vehicles parked in daft places in the town. As the article says, there is plenty of free parking around Neston. Parking near Natwest ATM: If Dennis means in the bus stop, this has been double yellow for as long as I can remember, just not observed by motorists; if directly in front of the ATM, this is to park on a corner which is dangerous, and to park a little further down, say on front of TIG, this causes an obstruction.

I had been trying to get the yellow lines repainted and the parking restriction signage updated for a while due to the very inconsiderate parking on Brook street of some drivers and delivery wagons (i think everyone knows who i mean) which was making it very dangerous for pedestrians crossing Brook street.I myself witnessed someone nearly run over trying to cross the road by an irate drivers car trying to get to the junction by overtaking a bus and then two delivery wagons before a car turned into Brook street from the High street.I don't want to see drivers getting fined for parking illegally i want them to legally park in the free car parks less than a minutes walk from the High street. It will hopefully make it easier for drivers getting around the town centre and reduce the possibility of a pedestrian getting run over.As for parking outside the Natwest i have to admit ashamedly i have done this myself but i will in future park up properly and walk up the road to use the cash machine. The councils enforcement officers will be around in the near future so be warned please consider other road users and pedestrians when parking up in Neston

I looked today and the yellow lines prohibit parking outside Natwest which also means that there must be no deliveries to the N/W bank or Martins etc. which will make their lives difficult which is ridiculous especially for Group 4 money collection etc.

Apart from myself and Cllr. Williams, there are numerous police cars whom I have often seen illegally parked to collect money, therefore,I do not agree with size 9 as there is reasonable space for just two cars - one either side of the mobility crossing but with a 10 mins limit. All that is required is some common sense.

However, whatever traffic system is adopted, great care must always be exercised when turning in any direction around The Cross as there have been accidents in the past.

Also worth mentioning is that I have asked our PCSO to use her speed camera in Parkgate Road between 16.30 and 18.00 hrs as there are speedsters who tear down once they have passed The Cross and rushing home.Up to now only a pidgeon has been killed but next time?

As I have mentioned before, anyone who drives through Neston at more than 20MPH at any time should be horsewhipped!!

With regards to the speed limit through Neston it is not a 20mph zone I my self do drive safely up to 30mph when coming home from work between 3.00am and 5.00am in the morning and have done for the past 10 years, If some people feel that this is too quick, well that is thier personal opinion and does not detract from the fact that all main roads in the Neston area are 30mph speed limit, when entering Neston whether it be via Liverpool Road, Hinderton Road or Burton road, mororists are advised by signage that they are entering a 30mph speed limit not 20mph.
on the other hand the 20mph zones should be 5mph as no one could ever drive over those extra high speed bumps at anything above 5mph or less without damaging thier vehicle,
take Breezehill road for example a lot of speed bumps were installed too high above the legal limit, it`s like driving up a kerb on some of them, ridiculous, a nice road ruined.

1. Parking restrictions and the law on obstruction need enforcing in Parkgate and outside schools as well. Other improvements are needed as well.

2.Especially now The Parade is partly obstructed by the Mostyn House scaffolding. The problem occurs mostly at weekends, evenings and bank holidays when people ignore the yellow lines, obstructing even the pinch points and preventing buses from turning in Mostyn Square. However weekdays are not much affected (except during the birder season) so marching up and down a deserted Parade is not a good use of resources. A 20mph restriction for the whole of the Parade Boathouse to Old Quay and inland to Brooklands Road would be no bad thing 'though.

3. Having said that I have some sympathy for drivers because little or nothing is done to direct them to places they can stop safely. Yet there are two car parks at the Station Road end of Parkgate, both unsigned, both underused, one in Park Field and one at the Wirral Way crossing; also the Old Baths car park at the Boathouse end. Both could be developed. Proper signage with pedestrian (including wheelchair) routes to the honeypot locations advertised and properly lit would provide a warmer welcome.

4. Would the Town Council's local shuttlebus idea provide the germ of a park-and-ride scheme?

5. Parking outside schools is a nightmare. I see it both at Parkgate School and Woodfall School and, to an extent, in the Rec car park. Same thing. Stopping on zigzags, rushing up and abandoning the vehicle anywhere regardless, stopping on pavements and verges, stopping across corners, driving too fast on narrow, partly-obstructed roads awash with small children, it's a high-risk disgrace.

Well, the Parking Restrictions notice has brought up many problems from humps that are too high,20 mph limit, parking problems etc.which our Town Council should surely pick up on.

Completely brainless bureaucratic nonsense to NOT allow up to two disabled vehicles to park outside Tig and NatWest.
It needs to be changed to allow disabled to collect cash and papers
It will not and has not in the past affected the free flow of traffic down Parkgate Road.
Who are these totally stupid people? Name them and get it changed

I can not understand why the yellow lines had to be painted up the curb stones as well, they look terrible,
I thought the town was a conservation area and as such, signage etc is taken into consideration . The council seems to have double standards. For example a resturant at the bottom of Neston has been made to remove it's illumunated sign whilst a supermarket has its sign ok'd in an elevated position.
I don't mind either way but wish the council would apply the same rules to all
